For this design, Fluff Your Stuff Interior Designer, Jill, was working with an open-plan space that had soaring ceilings. Because the rooms were so spacious, she really had the opportunity to go bold with color. During her initial consultation, the homeowner even lamented that the space was just too beige. With that, Jill set out to bring new life to the space while working with the existing sofas, a kitchen table with sentimental value, and a few other family heirlooms that needed to find a special spot within the design. Here are some of the before pictures:
Jill’s first task was actually to rework the foyer area. She used large-scale decor and a stunning mirror to keep things simple, and to allow the antique sideboard to shine.
In the living room, she softened the wall of floor-to-ceiling windows with drapes inset with a bold Suzani-pattern fabric.
The large, far wall required something that made a statement, so Jill paired a long console table with striking, over-sized artwork. Soft poufs stored underneath the console double as extra kid-friendly seating AND fill out the vignette.
Placing a rustic coffee table on top of a graphic rug provided balance in the space.
Jill used pillows in a variety of shapes and sizes to add character to the sofa.
A cozy reading nook provides the perfect getaway spot for the client, a busy mom!
In the kitchen, the dining table was both a family heirloom and a family favorite, especially for the husband, who didn’t want to have to give up his comfy roller chair. Jill found a great compromise by adding in some modern leather chairs and recovering the upholstery on the old chairs in a fresh, lighter colored fabric.
Because there was already a lot of wall decor in the dining nook, Jill stuck to larger-scale artwork, a streamlined centerpiece, and a simple cornice to add pops of color.
In the end, the client ended up with a space that was cozy, bright, and “finished,” without being cluttered!
