Did you realize that Mother’s Day is only a month away?!!! A lot of Moms this Mother’s Day will probably receive a giftcard to the Spa, but how many will receive a spa-like makeover of their very own bathroom? Here are some tips on how to give her a soothing getaway in her very own home. Now you’ll just have to find a time to sneak in and put these suggestions into action. Maybe you could get your Mom out of the house for a few hours…with a giftcard to the spa!
Tip # 1: Paint! Usually bathrooms aren’t that big, so painting is actually the easiest way to give them a face-lift. For that spa vibe, try sea glass colors.
Tip # 2: Add a cabinet stocked with towels and toiletries. If you’ve got the space, a small or skinny vintage display cabinet adds tons of character. Just make sure it’s chalk full of fluffy white towels.

Tip #3: Replace those plain beveled mirrors with something with a little more “Wow!” Round, oval or organic shapes make for the biggest change from your basic bathroom mirror.

For this design that we finished recently, we wanted to incorporate the homeowners sentimental possessions into the space; things like artwork that had been an engagement gift, a devotional candle with special meaning, and a collection of inherited antique metal purses. In the end we were able to find just the right spot for everything!

Front Sitting Room, After: In this room, narrow white bookshelves provided the perfect backdrop for a pair of pretty slipper chairs. Custom monogrammed pillows added a nice personal touch. We placed a small cabinet in the window alcove – something we don’t usually do. In this case, it just seemed to make sense.

Dining Room, After: In the dining room, we used shades of “greige” (a mix of gray and beige) on the walls – a great, updated neutral. A striking, new light fixture really made a difference too!
Instead of using one, large centerpiece, we grouped a variety of items together. The trick here is to still have one item as the main focal point. In this case it was the large glass cloche (or bell-shaped dome) with a candle and some decorative balls inside.

Family Room, After: In the family room, the homeowner wanted to preserve the original oak as well as her terra-cotta leather furniture. To help break up all of the warm tones we backed the shelving in white, paintable wallpaper meant to look like beadboard.
Blue, green, burgundy and gray accents were used as complimentary color throughout the design.
A tailored valance was a great solution for a long panel of windows across the back wall of the room. A matching valance in different fabric (but in the same colorway) helped to tie the kitchen and family room together.
We have had unbelievable support from other small business owners over the past year, and we feel like we needed to say thank you somehow. We also want to thank those businesses that donated their services/products throughout our Giveaway event – We couldn’t have done it without you.
