Over the next three blogs, we’re going to break down the Fluff Your Stuff Design Consultation process. A Fluff Consultation has several parts – the Homework, the Consultation, and the Consultation Package! Today, we’ll focus on the first part – the Homework. Also, just for kicks, we’ll show you a sample Consultation Package at the end of each blog in the series.
The Homework
Before we come to your house for your consultation, we ask you to complete some homework for us. We know, we know – The word “homework” probably strikes fear into your hearts, but we promise this is the easiest and most fun homework you’ll ever be assigned. And of course, the reason we ask you to do it is because it really does help us when we do our consultation with you. It gives us a better idea of who you are, what your design style is, and where you’d like to see your space end up. Still scared? Don’t be! Here are the things we ask that you prepare for us in advance:
1.Please come up with 4-5 words that you would like to describe your spaces when they are done.
2.If you have any samples that you’ve gathered, (paint, fabric swatches, etc.) please have those handy for us to consider.
3.What colors are you drawn to? What colors do you dislike?
4.Does your family have any interests, hobbies, interesting history or other things that are unique to you that we should know about?
5.Gather a few photos from websites, magazines, advertisements, etc. that represent styles you like.
That’s not too bad, right? Really, this part can be a lot of fun, especially gathering pics of rooms and designs that you love. The Fluff team really appreciates visual cues from you, so the more magazine pages you want to cut out, the better. No catalogs or magazines around the house? No worries. Look for inspiration online. Some good websites to peruse are DecorPad, Houzz, and HGTV.
Another fun way to put together some pictures for us is to use you Pinterest account to create a mood board. Or, if you could head over to Fluff Your Stuff’s Pinterest page to find some inspiration from rooms our team has actually designed.
And remember, this part of the process is just the tip of the iceberg. The next part is where, using your homework as a jumping point, we can start to guide you. In our next blog, we’ll tackle that next step and talk about the actual design consultation.
As promised, here is a sample Consultation Package!
