It’s Melanie, here, and I’m out in LA, so I feel compelled to write a little something about the kinds of design I’ve encountered out here so far. The first thing I will say is, man, they have all of the good stores here. I feel like I pass a West Elm every five seconds AND….IKEA!!!!! For anyone that’s ever been here, you probably know that everything about this city is different than Omaha: the climate, the plants (they’re all strange and beautiful), the traffic (ugh), and especially the architecture. I’ve been so taken by all of the Spanish Mission or Spanish Colonial houses out here, that I’ve decided to make that the main focus of my blog today.
Here’s a quick list of some of the main Spanish elements of design:
* The Barbed Quatrefoil (see pics below)
* Decorative Tile Mosaic (used many times on the stairs!)
* earthy colors, but also the use of cobalt blue!
* wrought iron details
Below I’ve included some great examples of some of the different interior Spanish design elements that I’ve encountered out here:
1) A quick pic of the typical architectrual style: the white or colored stucco, that tiled roof, and a courtyard are pretty typical out here!
2) The quatrefoil and the barbed quatrefoil (in order: pillow via Clayton Gray Home, mirror via Candelabra Home, barbed quatrefoil patterned rug via Fluff Your Stuff)
3) And finally, since I’m in LaLaLand…3 pictures from Diane Keaton’s Spanish Colonia house that are gooooorgeous.
